Artist's Comments

Well because DA doesn't allow multiple shots of a single piece we have a little crop-fu. This is my final project in advanced book arts. If anyone remembers seeing random pressed flowers in my gallery this is their final home. The project was based on the idea of collections and however you would like to interpret that.

I ended up doing a collaborative piece with my mom. She loves native plants and we have a pretty extensive garden. So while I was away at college she found the flowers, pressed them and scanned them. I then used these images of pressed flowers to make small reduction prints of each one. THEN I cut out the flower with a knife and put them into this book like they were the real flower. heehee but they're prints. The cover paper was printed by me and the little labels were done on an old school typewriter. Edition of 2 binding is a drum leaf.

This piece ended up being about my mom and how much I love her.

This is a wonderful idea! You made the book? Or is it just photography? There is a book making section in Artisan Crafts. You did a great job!

I hope you don't mind, I featured it in my journal [link] If you'd rather not be there just give me a heads up and I'll remove you. Thank you and keep making great art!

I made the book and everything in it by hand. There isn't really a book making section I could find only "folding and papercraft" and the book construction was the easy part. The majority of the work here went into the flowers which is lino printing. If I could split it into two categories I would.

You are welcome to post it in your journal. I am glad you like it. Thank you very much

this is so pretty! your relief printing is always lovely.

is the cover a lino cut as well?

This is so beautiful! I love gardening, and the idea of making your own pressed flowers (as well as all the effort that went into this!) is really appealing to me. :)

Yep. I carved this block that I never ended up using except as decorative paper.

Thank you so much.

I enjoy gardens way more than the dirty planting stuff, but my mom is really into native plants and she used to rescue them from construction sites.

You are right there is something interesting about the lino flower vs the real flower. How it is processed and changed. It's something I think about. Thank you for your lovely comment :)

Lovely! It's simultaneously realistic and stylized.
